16 Horsepower had quite a long carriere and they made many hits. For older fans Sackcloth ‘n’ Ashes will put a massive smile accross your face. While no new 16 Horsepower album is in sight, the artist has been road testing new songs during 1995 tour in North America. Sackcloth ‘n’ Ashes touched my soul like nothing else.
Black Soul Choir is the first taste of the new album. This song is like perfectly aged vintage bordeaux wine not a tequila shot. I like the idea behind Horse Head. Ruthie Lingle one is one of the better boring ones. You can find feelings on this piece of art. This song could easily nestle itself onto the world top playlists. Heel On The Shovel sets the tone for the entire album. Some call American Wheeze from Sackcloth ‘n’ Ashes as a quiet invitation of an artist to sit and listen. Red Neck Reel is probably the most interesting track on Sackcloth ‘n’ Ashes. In Prison Shoe Romp you won’t find any flashy solos. I hope to keep hearing 16 Horsepower works for a long time to come. Album opener Strong Man is a bright, upbeat ditty.
