This is one of the best Cd’s Ahmad Jamal Trio has dropped to date. Ahmad Jamal Trio’s debut, ‘I Rememeber Duke, Hoagy and Strayhorn’, does not fit easily into one genre. Lead single “My Flower” and “I Got it Bad” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. Ahmad Jamal Trio is one of my favourite bands of all time.
I Got it Bad (5:08) - Oh, this is one of my favorites! I like the agression and power of In a Sentimental Mood. Ruby is a song that definitely grows on you and becomes an album favorite. Don’t You Know I Care is the song that really did it for me. Ahmad Jamal Trio is one of artists that allow his songs like Prelude to a Kiss to stand on their own and be heard. Do Nothing ’till You Hear from Me is perhaps one of the best tracks of the past decade. Chelsea Bridge - I just love it. I Remember Hoagy is probably one of Ahmad Jamal Trio’s biggest successes for the album - it’s lovely to listen to. Skylark is perfect. Never Let Me Go is marvelous and different song. Goodbye is one of the best records ever.
