A Brief History Of Ambient Vol. 1 (CD 1) isn’t so much a record, as a great effort at dragging you into another world. Since completing 1993’s ‘Harold Budd / Flowered knife shadows’, Ambient - Various Artists fulfilled their contract with Blue Note Records and where under no obligation to release another album. After seeing Harold Budd / Flowered knife shadows, I had to have a good Ambient - Various Artists cd. Such great and happy songs.
This track is just a stunning masterpiece. Robert Fripp & Brian Eno / Evening star - To me, this is the best song on the A Brief History Of Ambient Vol. 1 (CD 1). Amorphous Androgynous / Mountain goat catches attention immediately, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan / Sea of vapours make listening to Ambient - Various Artists like being in some sort of time warp. It took me a little time but I ended up loving Hawkwind / The forge of Vulcan. Killing Joke / Requiem (A floating leaf always reaches the sea dub mix) is the album’s biggest hit, I think. Ambient - Various Artists has created something that grabs you by the heart and gets you moving. I came to like Richard Horowitz / Marnia’s tent. Irmin Schmidt & Bruno Spoerri / Rapido de noir is the first taste of the new album. Ashra / Kazoo one of the best in my collection. In Harold Budd & Brian Eno / Their memories Ambient - Various Artists spins a tale you want to hear to the end. This track is a great song that still never gets old. Blew our minds when we first heard Christopher Franke / Electric becomes eclectic.
