Anita O’Day’s debut, ‘Jazz Masters 49′, does not fit easily into one genre. Nowhere is this more so than on their re-working of Anita O’Day on ‘That Old Feeling’. Jazz Masters 49 is an amazing album, racked with beauty.Jazz Masters 49 is the best essence of Anita O’Day.
Boogie Blues very upbeat. Angel Eyes is a marvelous sing-along. A great put together song. (Ah, The Apple Trees) When The World Was Young gets you up and jumping. One of the songs that always stick in my mind is Ten Cents A Dance because the melody in the chorus is so good. Easy Come, Easy Go is possibly the most mysterious and inexplicable track Anita O’Day ever produced. Get Jazz Masters 49 and turn on No Soap, No Hope Blues if you are going to sip your wine late at night. Just In Time - My least favorite song on this album. This song stands out greatly from the others. A Nightingale Sang In Berkeley Square one of the best in my collection. From the sound of it, I believe the song can be a big radio hit. If The Moon Turns Green is a excellent, simple song by Anita O’Day at the top of his game. When I listen to Johnny One Note in my car when traffic ain’t going so good. After about the third Waiter, Make Mine Blues listen through, I began to believe this song is Anita O’Day’s essence. What Is This Thing Called Love? has a beautifully haunting disco flavor.
