Eight (+3) Tristano Compositions, 1989: For Warne Marsh isn’t so much a record, as a great effort at dragging you into another world. This thirteen-song debut EP shows the promise that Anthony Braxton has. Self-described as Jazz with lots of words, Anthony Braxton comes out swinging on perhaps his best album to date. Two Not One and 317 East 32nd Street is really good.
317 East 32nd Street has a gorgeous instrumental sound, which lets Anthony Braxton’s strong vocals come to the fore. I like Dreams because it’s extremely catchy and has awesome drumming. It’s very catchy and easy to get into which is what you want in a song. Simply the finest work ever from this multi-talented singer. Victory Ball [Take 2] is an incredible song that has everything it needs to be another favorite track. Victory Ball - Okay, I just talked about depth. Sax of a Kind gives taste of what makes Anthony Braxton special as a musician. Lennie-Bird is probably the most interesting track on Eight (+3) Tristano Compositions, 1989: For Warne Marsh. Time on My Hands is the first taste of the new album. Baby - I just love it. From the moment you listen to April you’re hooked.
