While no new Bach, Johann Sebastian album is in sight, the artist has been road testing new songs during 1996 tour in Europe. This disc has all of the essential Bach, Johann Sebastian classics. Lead single “Coro (Coro I / II): “Preise dein Gluecke, gesegnetes Sachsen” (The Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra & Chor, con. Ton Koopman.)” and “Recitativo (Tenore): “Wie koennen wir, grossmaechtigster August” (The Amsterdam Baroque)” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. If I may, I suggest “Coro (Coro I / II): “Preise dein Gluecke, gesegnetes Sachsen” (The Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra & Chor, con. Ton Koopman.)”. That one song is amazing!
Recitativo (Tenore): “Wie koennen wir, grossmaechtigster August” (The Amsterdam Baroque) - I just love it. Aria (Tenore): “Freilich trotzt Augustus’ Name” (The Amsterdam Baroque) is a great song to contemplate the modern music and what it really is all about. Recitativo (Basso): “Was hat dich sonst, Sarmatien, bewogen” (The Amsterdam Baroque) is the albums lead single as well as biggest hit. Aria (Basso): “Rase nur, verwegner Schwarm” (The Amsterdam Baroque) (3:16) - awsome. Still going through BWV 215 and coming to appreciate Recitativo (Soprano): “Ja, ja! Gott ist uns noch mit seiner Hilfe nah” (The Amsterdam Baroque) more and more with every listen. It’s also one of those rare songs that touchingly comfort the listener. If you are a Bach, Johann Sebastian fan, you will love Recitativo (Soprano, Tenore, Basso): “Lass doch, o teurer Landesvater, zu” (The Amsterdam Baroque). Strong, powerful vocals of Bach, Johann Sebastian in Coro: “Stifter der Reiche, Beherrscher der Kronen” (The Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra & Chor, con. Ton Koopman.) are very impressive.
