This is the first studio album from Blackstar since bad diagnosis in 1996. six years ago, Blackstar briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “Kunte Kinte (Original Dubplate)”. It has been six years Blackstar’ last studio CD, “Congo Natty Presents Roots” which won Array Emmy Awards and was nominated for album of the year. This album is awesome.
Kunte Kinte (Original Dubplate) is probably one of Blackstar’s biggest successes for the album - it’s lovely to listen to. You can find feelings on this piece of art. Junglist (feat. Peter Bouncer) without a doubt is the standout song of Congo Natty Presents Roots. You have to get essence of the Million Part II (feat. Million Dan)(Blackstar & 3rd Eye remix)’s power, to truly understand this masterpiece. Rasta Speech gets you up and jumping. In Radical (Zulu Warrior mix) you won’t find any flashy solos. A great put together song. In this song fans will recognize the unique vocals of Blackstar. Musically Alaska Ride (feat. Tenor Fly) is superior to other tracks in Congo Natty Presents Roots. Freestyle (Dread remix) is a strong cut, one of many. Lyrics of Get Wild (feat. Sweetie Irie)(Firefox remix) are precise and evocative. Album opener His Imperial Majesty (feat. Top Cat)(3rd Eye remix) is a bright, upbeat ditty. This song is very powerful, its catchy melody will have you singing along in no time. This is the most melodic ambitious and satisfying track in Congo Natty Presents Roots.
