Chango’s Dance isn’t so much a record, as a great effort at dragging you into another world. This is the first studio album from Bobby Matos since bad diagnosis in 1995. There is so much to love about Bobby Matos, starting with incredible harmonies, songwriting chops and stellar stage presence. Chango’s Dance is not something you should pass up.
When I listen to Chucho in my car when traffic ain’t going so good. Columbia Interlude (0:42) a good melody. Put Highway One into car stereo for your highway driving El Nuyorican is one of the best records ever. Checkere Interlude is a very catchy tune. Oiganlo (Son Numero Seis) is one of the more up-tempo songs on Chango’s Dance. Bobby Matos offers the kind of music here that makes you reflect on yourself. So What/Impressions is, without a doubt, my favorite song, ever. Mozambique Interlude is one of my favorite songs by Bobby Matos. Da Me Tu Amor as a highlight of Chango’s Dance contains a ton of cool melodies. It’s so catchy, it’s amazing. Such hits like La Charanga will leave you hooked. Music of Yeza Interlude is gentle, never overbearing. Bobby Matos must have run out of lyrics on the next track My Diamonds-Madrigal. Conga Conversation is a song that will not reduce you to tears but leave you thinking long after Chango’s Dance have ended. Nice and different song.
