Nowhere is this more so than on their re-working of Bud Powell on ‘Indiana’. Bud Powell was a flawless and timeless record. Not surprising from Bud Powell and The Complete Blue Note and Roost Recordings, disk 1 together. Since completing 1994’s ‘Indiana’, Bud Powell fulfilled their contract with ForeFront Records and where under no obligation to release another album. This is one of the best cd’s i have heard through the whole thing.
This is probably my favorite song on the album. Bouncing With Bud [Alternate Take #1] make listening to Bud Powell like being in some sort of time warp. This track is nearly perfect if not perfect. Still going through The Complete Blue Note and Roost Recordings, disk 1 and coming to appreciate Bouncing With Bud [Alternate Take #1] more and more with every listen. In Bud’s Bubble the light shines equally on lyrics, vocals and instrumentation. Dance of the Infidels [Alternate Take] is just a great song and one well worth taking the time to give it a good listen. Dance Of The Infidels the elegant and beautiful song on the album is hard to describe. Everything Happens To Me is the best music that I have heard from anyone in any area of music. Album opener I Should Care is a bright, upbeat ditty. Bud Powell must have run out of lyrics on the next track I’ll Remember April. Nice Work If You Can Get It is the more seemingly obscure song on The Complete Blue Note and Roost Recordings, disk 1 that bear up best to repeated listening. I now have Off Minor as one of my personal favorites. When I listen to Ornithology (Alternate Take) in my car when traffic ain’t going so good. Ornithology is a very good song maybe surprisingly better than you at first might’ve imagined. First time I heard Over The Rainbow was on radio driving in my car and sonically it just sounded amazing.A unique and uplifting song. Simple and heartfelt closing track Un Poco Loco (Alternate Take #2) closes The Complete Blue Note and Roost Recordings, disk 1 on a high note. I love the melodic melody of Un Poco Loco and to this day it makes me feel good. Somebody Loves Me had me crying as I was able to relate so well. Wail makes a person feel perfect. Wail - This one is lively and fun. You Go To My Head is pretty funky and mellow.
