On Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer album, Burl Ives have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. Burl Ives had quite a long carriere and they made many hits. Since completing 1995’s ‘Overture and a Holly Jolly Christmas’, Burl Ives fulfilled their contract with ForeFront Records and where under no obligation to release another album. Oh yes, this album gets Array out of Array
Burl Ives emotions are reflected through Jingle Jingle Jingle. This is one hell of a track. There’s Always Tomorrow is a romantic if not formulaic ditty. We’re A Couple Of Misfits is Burl Ives’s best work in years. Silver and Gold/Most Wonderful Day of the Year is a song to enjoy for years to come. Most Wonderful Day Of The Year is so unique, as each one of the songs is. Holly Jolly Christmas is the first taste of the new album. Vocal harmonies in this track are great and song structure is just right. Christmas Medley: The Night Before Christmas Song/A Merry Merry … on Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is solid and easy to listen to. This track is just fantastic from start to finish. There’s Always Tomorrow is one of the best records ever. Jingle Jingle Jingle is the funkiest number on the album. We’re A Couple Of Misfits defines beauty, yet is as unforgiving as an astringent stone. Silver And Gold is a strong cut, one of many. Still going through Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and coming to appreciate We Are Santa’s Elves more and more with every listen. Most Wonderful Day Of The Year is excellent and different song. This song may be the most meaningful. I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day is sonically very melodic with nice haunting verses.
