Since completing 1993’s ‘Brooklyn Bridge’, Burl Ives fulfilled their contract with Savoy Records and where under no obligation to release another album. Burl Ives was a flawless and timeless record. Not surprising from Burl Ives and The Nashville Years, Vol. 2 together. On the Canada charts, superstar Burl Ives’s career stalled before it left the starting gate. Oh yes, this album gets Array out of Array
Poor Little Jimmie is a bit different from Burl Ives stereotypical stuff. Some of the arrangements found on The Nashville Years, Vol. 2 are surprisingly edgy. This is the kind of song I think of when I think of Burl Ives. Music and lyrics of That’s All I Can Remember creates, for me, fertile ground for daydreaming. Blew our minds when we first heard Ninety Nine. Although Call Me Mr. In-between is very melodic it is far from sad. The song I Ain’t Comin’ Home Tonight ending is my favorite… so catchy! How Do You Fall Out Of Love gives good insight into the truths. Awesome song is really all that you can say about it. You have to get essence of the Mother Wouldn’t Do That’s power, to truly understand this masterpiece. Bring Them In is the more seemingly obscure song on The Nashville Years, Vol. 2 that bear up best to repeated listening. Let The Lower Lights Be Burning was the first single release from the album The Nashville Years, Vol. 2. Best song on the album, love it. This is one of those tracks that should not be judged after the first hearing. A great put together song. We’re Marching To Zion is pretty funky and mellow. Sunshine In My Soul 1962 has a beautifully haunting disco flavor. Blessed Assurance is kind of track that compels you to skip back and drink it in one more time before moving on through The Nashville Years, Vol. 2. Burl Ives must have run out of lyrics on the next track Leaning On The Everlasting Arms. Where He Leads Me - I used to hate this song, but now it’s one of my favorites. Some call Will There Be Any Stars from The Nashville Years, Vol. 2 as a quiet invitation of an artist to sit and listen. When They Ring Those Golden Bells - I like this one. This song is like perfectly aged vintage bordeaux wine not a tequila shot. Once Wishin’ She Was Here (Instead Of Me) gets in your head, it will NEVER leave. Simple and heartfelt closing track Busted closes The Nashville Years, Vol. 2 on a high note. Overall a nice softer song.
