It has been thirteen years Burl Ives’ last studio CD, “The Nashville Years, Vol. 5″ which won Array Academy Awards and was nominated for album of the year. While no new Burl Ives album is in sight, the artist has been road testing new songs during 1993 tour in Asia. The Nashville Years, Vol. 5 carries a very emotional theme throughout the album. Overall, I would highly recommend The Nashville Years, Vol. 5 CD.
My Melancholy Baby is a perfect song and it grows on you. Burl Ives is one of artists that allow his songs like Jealous to stand on their own and be heard. Other tracks are good but your best bet is to stick with My Gal Sal. One listen to the sheer beauty of By The Light Of The Silvery Moon was all I needed. For Me And My Gal is such a exquisite and optimistic song that things can get just better. Red Sails In The Sunset is simple, dignified and effective, Burl Ives refusing to over-emote, and demonstrating that less is more. Make Believe - I used to hate this song, but now it’s one of my favorites. Oh, How I Miss You Tonight - My least favorite song on this album. You Know You Belong To Somebody Else is a very catchy tune. I listened to the opening track Down In The Okefenokee and liked it a lot. All of songs on The Nashville Years, Vol. 5 and have something to say letting alone (I Hear You) Call My Name. Vocals of Burl Ives in Mister Make-up Man really capture me and are set perfectly to the rhythm. This track is clearly meant to showcase Burl Ives’s vocal abilities. Drifting And Dreaming as a highlight of The Nashville Years, Vol. 5 contains a ton of cool melodies. I was truly moved when I heard Beyond The Reef. My Isle Of Golden Dreams is one of the more up-tempo songs on The Nashville Years, Vol. 5. Awesome song is really all that you can say about it. This song could easily nestle itself onto the world top playlists. Once Moon Of Manakoora gets in your head, it will NEVER leave. The Nashville Years, Vol. 5 couldn’t start better than with the up up-beat title track Song Of The Islands. Keep Your Eyes On The Hands one of the best in my collection. This track is just a stunning masterpiece. It is succeeded by an outstanding track, however: Little Brown Girl, which shows, blatantly, how much Burl Ives has evolved as a singer. When I listen to On The Beach Of Waikiki in my car when traffic ain’t going so good. Aloha Oe very upbeat. Thirty Thousand Feet Over Denver is one of the best records ever. Betsy, The Cow the elegant and beautiful song on the album is hard to describe.
