Lead single “Pretty Girls Don’t Cry” and “Back On Your Side” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. Chris Isaak was a flawless and timeless record. Not surprising from Chris Isaak and Baja Sessions together. On the Cyprus charts, superstar Chris Isaak’s career stalled before it left the starting gate. I love this album so much, i’ve been crazy about Chris Isaak ever.
Some of the arrangements found on Baja Sessions are surprisingly edgy. Listening to Only the Lonely you can hear that Chris Isaak has still amazing chemistry with band members. It is succeeded by an outstanding track, however: South of the Border, which shows, blatantly, how much Chris Isaak has evolved as a singer. It took me a little time but I ended up loving I Wonder. Music of Wrong To Love You is gentle, never overbearing. Waiting for my Lucky Day - I like this one. Outside of the singles, my favorite song on Baja Sessions is Yellow Bird. Two Hearts is a song that will not reduce you to tears but leave you thinking long after Baja Sessions have ended. Return to Me - I just love it. You have to get essence of the Dancin’’s power, to truly understand this masterpiece. Sweet Leilani as well as many of songs is a short story in miniature. Baja Sessions couldn’t start better than with the up up-beat title track Think of Tomorrow.
