Coldcut was a flawless and timeless record. Not surprising from Coldcut and Philosophy together. Now signed to Coldcut’s Savoy Records, the title track from second album “Philosophy” leads Coldcut’s back-to-school campaign. Nowhere is this more so than on their re-working of Coldcut on ‘Philosophy’. This album is awesome.
No Coldcut song has come close to capturing my attention as Chocolate Box did. Music of Pearls Before Swine is gentle, never overbearing. After few listenings I started to like What We’re Living For more and more. Coldcut sings Leaving Home in such a comforting, confident voice that you can’t help but be moved. Dreamer (Ecu Mix) as well as many of songs is a short story in miniature. Peace & Love gives good insight into the truths. This is one of those tracks that should not be judged after the first hearing. Angel Heart - To me, this is the best song on the Philosophy. I loved Autumn Leaves the first time I heard it. I like the agression and power of Sign. Lyrics of Fat Bloke are precise and evocative. Coldcut allows each song to breathe and flourish. Coldcut must have run out of lyrics on the next track Bare Leaves.
