It’s natural for David Knopfler to take a stab at ‘Deptford Days’ considering her long-professed love for Green Grey. On the Slovenia charts, superstar David Knopfler’s career stalled before it left the starting gate. Since David Knopfler last CD (Small Mercies) on Savoy Records back in 1994, I have felt a massive void in my life. One of David Knopfler’s best albums yet.
The Heart Of It is sonically very melodic with nice haunting verses. I Remember It All is the more seemingly obscure song on Small Mercies that bear up best to repeated listening. In A Woman you won’t find any flashy solos. Vocal harmonies in this track are great and song structure is just right. This song could easily nestle itself onto the world top playlists. Song A Little Sun (Has Gotta Shine) is actually a funny song. Get Small Mercies and turn on Weeping In The Wings if you are going to sip your wine late at night. It’s a great pleasure to listen to Rocking Horse Love from the beginning to the end. Papa Don’t You Worry - This one has a powerful beat and a good melody. I Wasn’t There It All is one of the coolest songs David Knopfler has ever recorded. Love Will Find Us - is a breath or fresh air compared to many previous songs of David Knopfler. Forty Days and Nights catches attention immediately, After you’ve listened to Going Fishing, most everything else can’t hold up and is second rate.
