Since completing 1996’s ‘I Was Doing Allright’, Dexter Gordon fulfilled their contract with Capitol Records and where under no obligation to release another album. Since Dexter Gordon last CD (Blue Note (CD1)) on Capitol Records back in 1996, I have felt a massive void in my life. This disc has all of the essential Dexter Gordon classics. Smart music for smart people.
This track is just fantastic from start to finish. You’ve Changed is a great opener for Blue Note (CD1). Society Red is one of the best records ever. For Regulars Only (Alt. Take) is a amazing, simple song by Dexter Gordon at the top of his game. It’s You Or No One is cool work of Dexter Gordon. I can’t stop humming along For Regulars Only. Landslide is beautiful, yet underrated track. In Modal Mood the music gets its power. Clear The Dex is a nice, innocuous song, and much better than anything Dexter Gordon released so far. I now have Boy Saxophonist (Monologue By Dexter Gordon) as one of my personal favorites.
