This disc has all of the essential Emmylou Harris classics. Emmylou Harris’s debut, ‘Portraits (Disc 3)’, does not fit easily into one genre. It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of Emmylou Harris energies, virtually a rebirth. If you love Emmylou Harris as much as I do, then Emmylou Harris Portraits (Disc 3) is the CD for you!
I Still Miss Someone is a very catchy tune. Farther Along - (with Dolly PartonLinda Ronstadt) - another great track from the Portraits (Disc 3) album. There is marvelous mix of music in Pain Of Loving You, The - (with Dolly PartonLinda Ronstadt). Know Him Is To Love Him - (with Dolly PartonLinda Ronstadt) - I just love it. No Regrets as well as many of songs is a short story in miniature. This track is nearly perfect if not perfect. This song is like perfectly aged vintage bordeaux wine not a tequila shot. Walls of Time is maybe the best thing the group’s ever done. Calling my children Home is almost impossible to review. In Hard Times Emmylou Harris spins a tale you want to hear to the end. Emmylou Harris has created something that grabs you by the heart and gets you moving. Rollin’ And Ramblin’ (The Death Of Hank Williams) - A strong beat. I’ve found myself listening to West Texas Waltz - (with Flaco Jimenez) back to back and back many times. Charming song, great melody. Don’t judge Gulf Coast Highway - (with Willie Nelson) on the first listening. Icy Blue Heart is an underrated song: I like its lyrics and melody a lot. I loved In My Dreams the first time I heard it. A river for him is just simply stunning. Angel Band as a highlight of Portraits (Disc 3) contains a ton of excellent melodies.
