Thom Yorke has compared writing for Gilbert O’Sullivan’s new album to that on ‘Every Song Has It’s Play’ - but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying. Gilbert O’Sullivan was a flawless and timeless record. Not surprising from Gilbert O’Sullivan and Every Song Has It’s Play together. There is so much to love about Gilbert O’Sullivan, starting with incredible harmonies, songwriting chops and stellar stage presence. Every Song Has It’s Play touched my soul like nothing else.
Showbiz (With Nicky Henson) - Check out that bassline! Dear Dream is absolutely incredible. I Wish I Could Cry without a doubt is the standout song of Every Song Has It’s Play. Nothing To Fear (With Mike Dore) is another favourite of mine. Pretty Polly one is one of the better boring ones. Can’t Find My Way Home is a very good song maybe surprisingly better than you at first might’ve imagined. The first time I listened to Disbonourable Profession I was struck by its astounding sound. You Don’t Owe Me - If I Know You (With Mike Dore) is simple, dignified and effective, Gilbert O’Sullivan refusing to over-emote, and demonstrating that less is more. Nobody Wants To Know (With Barry Esson) - For me, this is the best of the album. Young At Heart is a bit of a show-tune. |titile| is quite refreshing and sets the tone for what is going on in Every Song Has It’s Play. Showbiz (Reprise) is probably the highlight of the album. A unique and uplifting song.
