When you buy a Goya, Francis album, you know exactly what you’re getting! This disc has all of the essential Goya, Francis classics. There is so much to love about Goya, Francis, starting with incredible harmonies, songwriting chops and stellar stage presence. If I Only Had Time and Nostalgia is really good.
Other tracks are good but your best bet is to stick with Nostalgia. Goya, Francis offers the kind of music here that makes you reflect on yourself. I like to sing along with Concerto D’aranjues, though I mess up the lyrics sometimes. Musically Ballade Pour Adeline is superior to other tracks in The Best. Jeux Interdits is the funkiest number on the album. Sleepy Shores has a beautifully haunting disco flavor. Veronica Mon Amour is a exquisite, simple song by Goya, Francis at the top of his game. La Comparsa gives good insight into the truths. Love Story is a bit different from Goya, Francis stereotypical stuff. Chanson Pour Milan is perhaps one of the best tracks of the past decade. Lyrics of Maria Elena are precise and evocative. Put Nuages into car stereo for your highway driving Goya, Francis must have run out of lyrics on the next track Zorba’s Dance. Argentina is the more seemingly obscure song on The Best that bear up best to repeated listening. Within the first few notes of The French Song it’s perfectly clear that Goya, Francis is living this song. It’s very catchy and easy to get into which is what you want in a song. The Best couldn’t start better than with the up up-beat title track Melodia. Guilty is so unique, as each one of the songs is. This track makes my mind whirl and vibrate with flowing energy. Golden Earrings as a highlight of The Best contains a ton of gorgeous melodies. It’s such an underrated song. Now Is The Hour is probably one of Goya, Francis’s biggest successes for the album - it’s lovely to listen to.
