Since completing 1994’s ‘Look-A-Here Baby’, Howlin’ Wolf fulfilled their contract with Columbia Records and where under no obligation to release another album. While no new Howlin’ Wolf album is in sight, the artist has been road testing new songs during 1994 tour in Asia. It’s natural for Howlin’ Wolf to take a stab at ‘Look-A-Here Baby’ considering her long-professed love for B.B. King. Look-A-Here Baby and California Blues #1 is really good.
There is amazing mix of music in California Blues #1. In Worried All The Time the light shines equally on lyrics, vocals and instrumentation. Everybody’s In The Mood is kind of track that compels you to skip back and drink it in one more time before moving on through Ain’t Gonna Be Your Dog, Vol.2 (CD 1). Color and Kind is the most memorable and amazing. Dorothy Mae is perhaps one of the best tracks of the past decade. Howlin’ Wolf has created something that grabs you by the heart and gets you moving. Decoration Day - This one has a powerful beat and a good melody. This track is almost perfect, instrumentals and vocals combine awesomely. The beautiful sound of this track makes you want to close your eyes and sway away with the music. In Highway My Friend full palet of sound is used by Howlin’ Wolf to accentuate the presentation. Hold Your Money has to be one of the most beautiful tracks on the entire album. I now have California Blues #2 as one of my personal favorites. Stay Here Til My Baby Comes Back one is one of the better boring ones. This track makes my mind whirl and vibrate with flowing energy. So Glad is one of my favorite songs by Howlin’ Wolf. Bluebird - Well, here we get a bit more meaning. |titile| is quite refreshing and sets the tone for what is going on in Ain’t Gonna Be Your Dog, Vol.2 (CD 1). Music of You Ought To Know is gentle, never overbearing. Nature (Alternate Take) is the gorgeous blend of moody yet optimistic tunes. So much energy, so exciting a sound.Poor Boy (Alternate Take) is possibly the best song Howlin’ Wolf has come up.
