It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of Israel Kamakawiwo’ole energies, virtually a rebirth. Nowhere is this more so than on their re-working of Israel Kamakawiwo’ole on ‘Hawai’i ‘78 introduction’. Since completing 1993’s ‘Hawai’i ‘78 introduction’, Israel Kamakawiwo’ole fulfilled their contract with Columbia Records and where under no obligation to release another album. This album is a scorcher!
Ka Huila Wai is probably one of Israel Kamakawiwo’ole’s biggest successes for the album - it’s lovely to listen to. ‘Ama’ama - This one has a powerful beat and a good melody. This song is dynamic and dramatic. Take Me Home Country Road - My least favorite song on this album. In Kuhio Bay Israel Kamakawiwo’ole is at his best. Israel Kamakawiwo’ole must have run out of lyrics on the next track Ka Pua U’i. This song could easily nestle itself onto the world top playlists. Henehene Kou ‘Aka (4:20) Not one of my favorites, but for a lot of people this is one of their best songs. This track is a killer, it just grabs you instantly. From the sound of it, I believe the song can be a big radio hit. Strong, powerful vocals of Israel Kamakawiwo’ole in Maui Hawaiian Sup’pa Man are very impressive. Kaulana Kawaihae is one of the best records ever. Somewhere Over The Rainbow/What A Wonderful World has a fun tempo. Hawai’i ‘78 - This one makes me want to not only sing along.
