There is so much to love about J. J. Cale, starting with incredible harmonies, songwriting chops and stellar stage presence. Lead single “Long Way Home” and “Sho-Biz Blues” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. Self-described as Blues with lots of words, J. J. Cale comes out swinging on perhaps his best album to date. If you love J. J. Cale as much as I do, then J. J. Cale Closer To You is the CD for you!
This track makes my mind whirl and vibrate with flowing energy. I came to like Slower Baby. Devil’s Nurse is one of those songs that will put you in a good mood. Like You Used Too is probably the most interesting track on Closer To You. Borrowed Time is perfect. Some of the arrangements found on Closer To You are surprisingly edgy. Brown Dirt is possibly the best song J. J. Cale has come up. Hard Love is a fine track on any terms. From the sound of it, I believe the song can be a big radio hit. J. J. Cale is hitting on all cylinders in Closer To You. Charming song, great melody.
