thirteen years ago, James Last briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “Hey”. It’s natural for James Last to take a stab at ‘La Bamba’ considering her long-professed love for East 17. This disc has all of the essential James Last classics. To me James Last is the best band ever.
Only one song from Viva Espana named Hey really got me. Bamboleo still maintains something of a specific flourish. Agapimu (4:30) - Oh, this is one of my favorites! Entre Dos Aguas is just simply stunning. Opening track Para Que No Me Olvides shows the best of James Last. Oye Mi Canto is beautiful, yet underrated track. Barcelona is pretty funky and mellow. Viva Espana without a doubt is the standout song of Viva Espana. James Last allows each song to breathe and flourish. When I listen to Guantanamera in my car when traffic ain’t going so good. Paloma Negra - I used to hate this song, but now it’s one of my favorites. Vocal harmonies in this track are great and song structure is just right. The sound of Good Night Spain is difficult to describe, as it seems to squirm in a sensual manner, unlike anything ever created.
