18 Essential Songs carries a very emotional theme throughout the album. Since completing 1995’s ‘Trouble In Mind’, Janis Joplin fulfilled their contract with Virgin Records and where under no obligation to release another album. After debuting at No. 1 last week, Janis Joplin’s album 18 Essential Songs falls to No. 2 with 617,000, a sales slide of 74%. This is my first Janis Joplin Album and i must say i am blown away.
The opening track Down On Me is very much like you would expect from other albums. Voice and instruments in Bye, Bye Baby complement each other. Ball And Chain is a very catchy tune. Piece Of My Heart is a bit different from Janis Joplin stereotypical stuff. I Need A Man To Love make listening to Janis Joplin like being in some sort of time warp. Summertime [Take 1] - This one makes me want to not only sing along. Try (Just A Little Bit Harder) - This is a very lively song. In this song fans will recognize the unique vocals of Janis Joplin. A unique and uplifting song. Raise Your Hand is the most memorable and cool. This track is just fantastic from start to finish. Move Over - Janis Joplin first major hit. Mercedes Benz catches attention immediately, Get It While You Can good vocals. I think Half Moon is the best song Janis Joplin has ever done. Trust Me is one of my favorite songs by Janis Joplin. Janis Joplin has created something that grabs you by the heart and gets you moving.
