While no new J.J. Johnson album is in sight, the artist has been road testing new songs during 1994 tour in South America. This eight-song debut EP shows the promise that J.J. Johnson has. Lead single “Neo” and “Gloria” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. Exciting stuff.
Gloria - A strong beat. Stella By Starlight is possibly the most mysterious and inexplicable track J.J. Johnson ever produced. Minor Blues is absolutely incredible. This is probably my favorite song on the album. In Blues Waltz J.J. Johnson is at his best. The sound in Lullaby Of Jazzland is really warm and J.J. Johnson’s signature voice is still very much present.
