This disc has all of the essential Joan Baez classics. This is one of the best Cd’s Joan Baez has dropped to date. Lead single “Epitaph For A Poet” and “Old Welsh Song” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. Baptism is the best essence of Joan Baez.
Old Welsh Song is possibly the best song Joan Baez has come up. It’s very catchy and easy to get into which is what you want in a song. I like the idea behind The Parable Of The Old Man And The Young. Opening track All In Green Went My Love A Riding shows the best of Joan Baez. Gacela Of The Park Death - My least favorite song on this album. Colours has a beautifully haunting disco flavor. Joan Baez allows each song to breathe and flourish. One listen to the sheer beauty of Poems From The Japanese was all I needed. Childhood III is a gorgeous sing-along. All The Pretty Little Horses - A nice song. Joan Baez is one of artists that allow his songs like From Portrait Of The Artist As A Young Man to stand on their own and be heard. Joan Baez breathes new life into the music in Oh,Little Child. No Man Is An Island is the best music that I have heard from anyone in any area of music. Who Murdered The Minutes - I used to hate this song, but now it’s one of my favorites. Musically London is superior to other tracks in Baptism. In Guernica still maintains something of a specific flourish. This track makes my mind whirl and vibrate with flowing energy. Of The Dark Past is the albums lead single as well as biggest hit. When I listen to Minister Of War in my car when traffic ain’t going so good. Song In The Blood is a good listen every once in a while. Voice and instruments in I Saw The Vision Of Armies complement each other. Once you hear Old Welsh Song, you will listen to it over and over.
