Since completing 1996’s ‘Bang, Bang, Bang, Bang’, John Lee Hooker fulfilled their contract with SixSteps records and where under no obligation to release another album. This album has some very good songs like Bang, Bang, Bang, Bang and Boogie Everywhere I Go. John Lee Hooker’s debut, ‘Live At The Cafe Au Go-Go (And Soledad Prison)’, does not fit easily into one genre. Live At The Cafe Au Go-Go (And Soledad Prison) is preety good and all the songs have a good meaning behind them.
Boogie Everywhere I Go is a medium tempo tune. Heartaches and Misery - another great track from the Live At The Cafe Au Go-Go (And Soledad Prison) album. So much energy, so exciting a sound.I’ll Never Get Out Of These Blues Alive sets the tone for the entire album. I’m Bad Like Jesse James is nothing short of a modern masterpiece. Lucille - I like this one. Strong, powerful vocals of John Lee Hooker in One Bourbon, One Scotch and One Beer are very impressive. John Lee Hooker sings Serve Me Right To Suffer in such a comforting, confident voice that you can’t help but be moved. It’s a great pleasure to listen to Seven Days from the beginning to the end. She’s Long, She’s Tall She Weeps Like A Willow Tree gets you up and jumping. John Lee Hooker is hitting on all cylinders in What’s The Matter Baby. When My First Wife Left Me is a bit different from John Lee Hooker stereotypical stuff.
