ten years ago, Johnny Copeland briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “The Jungle”. ‘Jungle Swing’ kicks the album off with a blast of pure pop energy. Since Johnny Copeland last CD (Jungle Swing) on Columbia Records back in 1996, I have felt a massive void in my life. This album is in perfect progression from Johnny Copeland!
Music of The Jungle is gentle, never overbearing. Blues Ain’t Nothin’ is a song to savor, to listen to from every angle. Lyrics of Kasavubu are precise and evocative. Hold On To What You Got is the song that really did it for me. Monkey On My Back is one of these floating songs. We Love Walking On The Wild Side is an incredible song that has everything it needs to be another favorite track. Johnny Copeland has created something that grabs you by the heart and gets you moving. From the sound of it, I believe the song can be a big radio hit. In Abidjan you won’t find any flashy solos. I Got A Love which is my favorite is a truly Johnny Copeland sounding song.
