While no new Keiko Matsui album is in sight, the artist has been road testing new songs during 1994 tour in Africa. I am not a real Jazz: Contemporary Jazz music type of person, but i have to admit ‘Doll’ really is amazing. Since completing 1994’s ‘Bronze Casting’, Keiko Matsui fulfilled their contract with Blue Note Records and where under no obligation to release another album. Doll is not something you should pass up.
Moroccan Ashes is one of the best records ever. Doll is almost impossible to review. This track is full of harmonies and gets Doll off to a relaxing start. Voice of the Heart makes a person feel cool. 1942, from Russia is one of the more up-tempo songs on Doll. Postponed Summer is the funkiest number on the album. Eye of the Moon is another favourite of mine. Funny Things is a bit different from Keiko Matsui stereotypical stuff. Sympathy - is a breath or fresh air compared to many previous songs of Keiko Matsui.
