There is so much to love about Kenny Burrell with Frank Wess, starting with incredible harmonies, songwriting chops and stellar stage presence. On Monday Stroll album, Kenny Burrell with Frank Wess have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. Since Kenny Burrell with Frank Wess last CD (Monday Stroll) on Mute Records back in 1994, I have felt a massive void in my life. Oh yes, this album gets Array out of Array
In East Wind the light shines equally on lyrics, vocals and instrumentation. The first time I listened to Wess Side I was struck by its astounding sound. This track is almost perfect, instrumentals and vocals combine awesomely. I think Woolafunt’s Lament is the best song Kenny Burrell with Frank Wess has ever done. One of the more genuine-sounding songs is Over The Rainbow. Music in Kansas City Side is perfect as in all tracks of Monday Stroll.
