Gimme Shelter!: The Best of Leon Russell (cd1) isn’t so much a record, as a great effort at dragging you into another world. I am not a real Rock music type of person, but i have to admit ‘Gimme Shelter!: The Best of Leon Russell (cd1)’ really is amazing. Since completing 1996’s ‘Hello, Little Friend’, Leon Russell fulfilled their contract with ForeFront Records and where under no obligation to release another album. It is very deep stuff - very exciting
Music in Sweet Home Chicago is perfect as in all tracks of Gimme Shelter!: The Best of Leon Russell (cd1). After about the third Tryin’ To Stay ‘Live listen through, I began to believe this song is Leon Russell’s essence. Ballad For A Soldier is just simply stunning. In A Song For You the music gets its power. I like to sing along with Dixie Lullaby, though I mess up the lyrics sometimes. Simple and heartfelt closing track Hummingbird closes Gimme Shelter!: The Best of Leon Russell (cd1) on a high note. Delta Lady - Leon Russell first major hit. In Pisces Apple Lady Leon Russell is at his best. Old Masters (Masters Of War) is kind of track that compels you to skip back and drink it in one more time before moving on through Gimme Shelter!: The Best of Leon Russell (cd1). This track is clearly meant to showcase Leon Russell’s vocal abilities. The first time I listened to Crystal Closet Queen I was struck by its exquisite sound. Home Sweet Oklahoma is possibly the most mysterious and inexplicable track Leon Russell ever produced. One of the more genuine-sounding songs is She Smiles Like A River. Beware Of Darkness is astounding. Tight Rope is a very catchy tune. Me & Baby Jane is a nice, innocuous song, and much better than anything Leon Russell released so far. Manhattan Island Serenade is a fine track on any terms. Don’t judge Magic Mirror on the first listening. This Masquerade can be hardly overrated by any means; this is what Leon Russell is all about.
