After debuting at No. 1 last week, Less Than Jake’s album Pezcore falls to No. 2 with 332,000, a sales slide of 80%. While no new Less Than Jake album is in sight, the artist has been road testing new songs during 1995 tour in North America. Lead single “Liquor Store” and “My Very Own Flag” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. Pezcore is preety good and all the songs have a good meaning behind them.
My Very Own Flag is a perfect, simple song by Less Than Jake at the top of his game. Less Than Jake emotions are reflected through Johnny Quest Thinks We’re Sellouts. In Big Less Than Jake spins a tale you want to hear to the end. Shotgun is sonically very melodic with nice haunting verses. All of songs on Pezcore and have something to say letting alone Black Coffee. Throw The Brick good vocals. I like to sing along with Growing Up On A Couch, though I mess up the lyrics sometimes. Blindsided very upbeat. Strong, powerful vocals of Less Than Jake in Downbeat are very impressive. It’s very catchy and easy to get into which is what you want in a song. Out Of The Crowd is the first taste of the new album. Robo is outstanding work of Less Than Jake. Where In The Hell Is Mike Sinkovich is a song that will not reduce you to tears but leave you thinking long after Pezcore have ended. Process is Less Than Jake’s best work in years. 3 Quarts Drunk one is one of the better boring ones. In Boomtown full palet of sound is used by Less Than Jake to accentuate the presentation. Short On Ideas (1:48) Not one of my favorites, but for a lot of people this is one of their best songs. One Last Cigarette is a excellent sing-along.
