There is no doubt that Lester Bowie’s Brass Fantasy has talent. On Avant Pop album, Lester Bowie’s Brass Fantasy have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. Stanley Donwood has compared writing for Lester Bowie’s Brass Fantasy’s new album to that on ‘Avant Pop’ - but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying. This album is a scorcher!
In Saving All My Love For You it becomes nowhere more obvious that Lester Bowie’s Brass Fantasy has yet to define own style. Some of the arrangements found on Avant Pop are surprisingly edgy. Blueberry Hill is possibly the best song Lester Bowie’s Brass Fantasy has come up. This song is like perfectly aged vintage bordeaux wine not a tequila shot. Within the first few notes of Macho it’s perfectly clear that Lester Bowie’s Brass Fantasy is living this song. No Shit actually sounds so joyous, that you can practically see a smile on Lester Bowie’s Brass Fantasy’s face. Oh, What A Night is just simply stunning.
