Since completing 1996’s ‘Late In The Evening’, Lightnin’ Hopkins fulfilled their contract with Blue Note Records and where under no obligation to release another album. There is no doubt that Lightnin’ Hopkins has talent. Since Lightnin’ Hopkins last CD (Houston Gold) on Blue Note Records back in 1996, I have felt a massive void in my life. This album is in perfect progression from Lightnin’ Hopkins!
Lightnin’ Hopkins sings Lightnin’ Jump in such a comforting, confident voice that you can’t help but be moved. This song has very few things relative to that of it’s predecessor. Got Me A Louisiana Woman is a great song to contemplate the modern music and what it really is all about. |titile| is quite refreshing and sets the tone for what is going on in Houston Gold. Lightnin’ Hopkins has astounded me with this amazing track. The World’s A Tangle has to be one of the most beautiful tracks on the entire album. I Went To Louisiana hits the heart. I Feel Like Balling The Jack - Lightnin’ Hopkins first major hit. A Man Like Me Is Hard To Find one of the most beautiful songs i’ve ever heard. Go Ahead is a very catchy tune. I Wonder Where She Can Be Tonight - Okay, I just talked about depth. You have to get essence of the Old Man’s power, to truly understand this masterpiece. Although I prefer the faster paced music, I think Moving Out is my favorite song on Houston Gold. Crying For Bread is possibly the most mysterious and inexplicable track Lightnin’ Hopkins ever produced.
