After seeing Road Ode, I had to have a good Loudon Wainwright III cd. Since Loudon Wainwright III last CD (Career Moves) on Mute Records back in 1993, I have felt a massive void in my life. Lead single “Road Ode” and “I’m Alright” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. This is one of Loudon Wainwright III best albums
I’m Alright is absolutely incredible. Five Years Old is a fine track on any terms. Your Mother is really the reason why I recommend buying Career Moves. Some of the arrangements found on Career Moves are surprisingly edgy. He Said, She Said - another great track from the Career Moves album. It is succeeded by an outstanding track, however: Christmas Rap, which shows, blatantly, how much Loudon Wainwright III has evolved as a singer. Get Career Moves and turn on Suddenly It’s Christmas if you are going to sip your wine late at night. This track is a killer, it just grabs you instantly. Blew our minds when we first heard A Fine Celtic Name. T.S.M.N.W.A. - Loudon Wainwright III first major hit. Loudon Wainwright III allows each song to breathe and flourish. The Swimming Song one of the best in my collection. Absence Makes The Heart Grow Fonder make listening to Loudon Wainwright III like being in some sort of time warp. It took me a little time but I ended up loving Happy Birthday Elvis. This song could easily nestle itself onto the world top playlists. Unhappy Anniversary is the best music that I have heard from anyone in any area of music. I now have I’d Rather Be Lonely as one of my personal favorites. Just Say No is the astounding blend of moody yet optimistic tunes. The song feels complete. This song is dynamic and dramatic. All of songs on Career Moves and have something to say letting alone The Acid Song. Tip That Waitress is the song that really did it for me. Career Moves is so unique, as each one of the songs is.
