This thirteen-song debut EP shows the promise that Louis Armstrong has. Self-described as Jazz with lots of words, Louis Armstrong comes out swinging on perhaps his best album to date. On the Cyprus charts, superstar Louis Armstrong’s career stalled before it left the starting gate. Lots of variety between tracks. My favorite is Bess, You Is My Woman Now
Bess, You Is My Woman Now can be hardly overrated by any means; this is what Louis Armstrong is all about. If you are a Louis Armstrong fan, you will love Tenderly. I’m Puttin’ All My Eggs In One Basket is a very catchy tune. Under A Blanket Of Blue is flawed, nonetheless pretty good song. I’ve found myself listening to Moonlight In Vermont back to back and back many times. Get Verve Jazz Masters 24: Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong and turn on I Got Plenty O’ Nuttin’ if you are going to sip your wine late at night. It is succeeded by an outstanding track, however: April In Paris, which shows, blatantly, how much Louis Armstrong has evolved as a singer. It’s a great pleasure to listen to Our Love Is Here To Stay from the beginning to the end. Isn’t This A Lovely Day? is sonically very melodic with nice haunting verses. I’ve Got My Love To Keep Me Warm is simple, dignified and effective, Louis Armstrong refusing to over-emote, and demonstrating that less is more. This track is clearly meant to showcase Louis Armstrong’s vocal abilities.
