Maria Callas’s debut, ‘Great Moments Of… (Cd 3)’, does not fit easily into one genre. Lead single “Aida (Verdi) - Ritorna Vincitor’” and “Cavalleria Rusticana (Mascagni) - Voi Lo Sapete, O Mamma” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. This album has some very good songs like Aida (Verdi) - Ritorna Vincitor’ and Cavalleria Rusticana (Mascagni) - Voi Lo Sapete, O Mamma. This album is a scorcher!
Cavalleria Rusticana (Mascagni) - Voi Lo Sapete, O Mamma is new, fresh, and hypnotizing. So much energy, so exciting a sound.I Vespri Siciliani (Verdi) - Arrigo! Ah Parli A Un Core had me crying as I was able to relate so well. Il Trovatore (Verdi) - D’amor Sull’ali Rosee is a romantic if not formulaic ditty. One listen to the sheer beauty of Il Trovatore (Verdi) - Di Te! Scordarmi Di Te was all I needed. Il Trovatore (Verdi) - Miserere - Quel Suon. Quelle Preci is a exquisite song and it grows on you. Opening track La Bohume (Puccini) - Si, Mi Chiamano Mimi shows the best of Maria Callas. Simply the finest work ever from this multi-talented singer. La Forza Del Destino (Verdi) - Son Giunta! Grazie, O Dio ! is probably the most interesting track on Great Moments Of… (Cd 3). First time I heard Macbeth (Verdi) - La Luce Langue was on radio driving in my car and sonically it just sounded amazing.Madame Butterfly (Puccini) - Un Bel Di Vedremo has a fun tempo. Only one song from Great Moments Of… (Cd 3) named Manon Lescaut (Puccini) - Sola, Perduta, Abbandonata really got me. Rigoletto (Verdi) - Caro Nome Que Il Mio Cor is a song that will not reduce you to tears but leave you thinking long after Great Moments Of… (Cd 3) have ended. You have to get essence of the Tosca (Puccini) - Vissi D’arte’s power, to truly understand this masterpiece. Turandot (Puccini) - In Questa Reggia is the funkiest number on the album. Un Ballo In Maschera (Verdi) - Morr, Ma Prima In Grazia gets you up and jumping.
