It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of Maria McKee energies, virtually a rebirth. twelve years ago, Maria McKee briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “This Perfect Dress”. On Life Is Sweet album, Maria McKee have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. Exciting stuff.
From the moment you listen to This Perfect Dress you’re hooked. Absolutely Barking Stars is the best music that I have heard from anyone in any area of music. I’m Not Listening - Well, here we get a bit more meaning. Everybody is pretty funky and mellow. Smarter is one of those songs that will put you in a good mood. This is probably my favorite song on the album. Although I’m Awake is very melodic it is far from sad. I hope to keep hearing Maria McKee works for a long time to come. The song feels complete. This track is full of harmonies and gets Life Is Sweet off to a relaxing start. Once you hear Afterlife, you will listen to it over and over.
