After seeing Sing A Sad Song, I had to have a good Merle Haggard cd. This disc has all of the essential Merle Haggard classics. There is no doubt that Merle Haggard has talent. This album is a scorcher!
You Don’t Even Try - Well, here we get a bit more meaning. Life In Prison (False Start) - another great track from the Untamed Hawk CD1 album. Life In Prison is gorgeous song though, very addictive. You Don’t Have Far To Go is exquisite and different song. Sam Hill one of the most beautiful songs i’ve ever heard. A fantastic track full of wonder. Please Mr. D.J. is a bit different from Merle Haggard stereotypical stuff. I’d Trade All Of My Tomorrows is probably the most interesting track on Untamed Hawk CD1. (My Friends Are Gonna Be) Strangers gives taste of what makes Merle Haggard special as a musician. I listened to the opening track Slowly But Surely (& Bonnie Owens) and liked it a lot. What sets Just Between The Two Of Us (& Bonnie Owens) apart is Merle Haggard’s innovative and organic way of creating atmospheres. Nice and different song. This track is a killer, it just grabs you instantly. Put I Wanta Live Again into car stereo for your highway driving A House Without Love Is Not A Home - This one makes me want to not only sing along. This track is just fantastic from start to finish. Best song on the album, love it. Piedras Negras (Go Home) is nothing short of a modern masterpiece. Outside of the singles, my favorite song on Untamed Hawk CD1 is Singin’ My Heart Out. This song is very powerful, its catchy melody will have you singing along in no time. Charming song, great melody. Merle Haggard must have run out of lyrics on the next track I’d Trade All Of My Tomorrows (Without String Overdub). Music and lyrics of If I Had Left It Up To You creates, for me, fertile ground for daydreaming. I’m Gonna Break Every Heart I Can is a perfect sing-along. I like to sing along with Stranger In My Arms (& Bonnie Owens), though I mess up the lyrics sometimes. If I Could Be Him is a strong cut, one of many. Excellent vocals and musical performances. This Town’s Not Big Enough has a beautifully haunting disco flavor.
