Untamed Hawk CD3 isn’t so much a record, as a great effort at dragging you into another world. This disc has all of the essential Merle Haggard classics. It’s natural for Merle Haggard to take a stab at ‘Mary’s Mine’ considering her long-professed love for Ondskapt. Smart music for smart people.
Charming song, great melody. Someone Told My Heart gives taste of what makes Merle Haggard special as a musician. Opening track Piedras Negras (Go Home) shows the best of Merle Haggard. Voice and instruments in Whatever Happened to You complement each other. You can find feelings on this piece of art. Skid Row is the more seemingly obscure song on Untamed Hawk CD3 that bear up best to repeated listening. Drink Up and Be Somebody is probably the most interesting track on Untamed Hawk CD3. Album opener Gone Crazy is a bright, upbeat ditty. I Threw Away the Rose is a strong cut, one of many. Listening to Some of Us Never Learn you can hear that Merle Haggard has still amazing chemistry with band members. Put Branded Man into car stereo for your highway driving Merle Haggard has created something that grabs you by the heart and gets you moving. Wine Take Me Away is probably one of Merle Haggard’s biggest successes for the album - it’s lovely to listen to. First time I heard If You See My Baby was on radio driving in my car and sonically it just sounded amazing.No Merle Haggard song has come close to capturing my attention as Somewhere Between did. Don’t Get Married is another strong production from Merle Haggard. My Hands Are Tied is one of my favorite songs by Merle Haggard. It’s so catchy, it’s amazing. Look Over Me is a song you cannot help but think about at odd moments in your day. This track is just fantastic from start to finish. I’ll Leave the Bottle on the Bar - A nice song. I like to sing along with Sing Me Back Home, though I mess up the lyrics sometimes. The Son of Hickory Holler’s Tramp is maybe the best thing the group’s ever done. This track is nearly perfect if not perfect. Will You Visit Me on Sundays is another favourite of mine. This song is like perfectly aged vintage bordeaux wine not a tequila shot.
