Since completing 1996’s ‘Read Between The Lies (Anathema)’, Metal - Various Artists fulfilled their contract with Virgin Records and where under no obligation to release another album. There is so much to love about Metal - Various Artists, starting with incredible harmonies, songwriting chops and stellar stage presence. While no new Metal - Various Artists album is in sight, the artist has been road testing new songs during 1996 tour in Europe. This is the best album I have heard in a long time
Necrophiliac (Benediction) is an incredible song that has everything it needs to be another favorite track. I find myself hearing bits of Epidemic (Coffin Man) here and there throughout my waking hours. The song feels complete. Seasons In The Abyss (Disaffected) is possibly the best song Metal - Various Artists has come up. Angel Of Death (Liers In Wait) is the albums lead single as well as biggest hit. Chemical Warfare (Luciferion) is possibly the most mysterious and inexplicable track Metal - Various Artists ever produced. In Raining Blood (Malevolent Creation) it becomes nowhere more obvious that Metal - Various Artists has yet to define own style. Die By The Sword (Necrophobic) is the first taste of the new album. No Metal - Various Artists song has come close to capturing my attention as Praise Of Death (Sinister) did. This track is full of harmonies and gets Unanimated - Slatanic Slaughter II (Tribute) off to a relaxing start. Silent Scream (Vader) is almost impossible to review.
