It has been nine years Naked City’ last studio CD, “Radio” which won Array Grammy Awards and was nominated for album of the year. ‘Radio’ kicks the album off with a blast of pure pop energy. Since completing 1993’s ‘Asylum’, Naked City fulfilled their contract with Blue Note Records and where under no obligation to release another album. Oh yes, this album gets Array out of Array
Naked City is hitting on all cylinders in Sunset Surfer. Party Girl is a catchy, up-tempo track that has influence of music streams without leaning too much in that direction. The Outsider one is one of the better boring ones. Triggerfingers on Radio is solid and easy to listen to. Song Terkmani Teepee is actually a funny song. Sex Fiend is Naked City’s best work in years. Razorwire - For me, this is the best of the album. The Bitter and The Sweet is the best music that I have heard from anyone in any area of music. Blew our minds when we first heard Krazy Kat. When listening to The Vault, it gives me such an energy rush it’s unbelievable. Metaltov is probably the highlight of the album. I think Poisonhead is the best song Naked City has ever done. Lyrics of Bone Orchard are precise and evocative. I Die Screaming is a gorgeous sing-along. This track is a fabulous selection of easy listening, suitable for any age, taste or occasion. This track is nearly perfect if not perfect. This track is full of harmonies and gets Radio off to a relaxing start. American Psycho is possibly the most mysterious and inexplicable track Naked City ever produced.
