When you buy a Nick Cave album, you know exactly what you’re getting! Self-described as Metal with lots of words, Nick Cave comes out swinging on perhaps his best album to date. On Murder Ballads album, Nick Cave have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. Murder Ballads is preety good and all the songs have a good meaning behind them.
I was truly moved when I heard Death Is Not the End. Get Murder Ballads and turn on Henry Lee if you are going to sip your wine late at night. This track is a fabulous selection of easy listening, suitable for any age, taste or occasion. Although O’Malley’s Bay is very melodic it is far from sad. Song of Joy - A nice song. Stagger Lee is another favourite of mine. The Curse of Millhaven is a bit of a show-tune. The Kindness of Strangers is simple, dignified and effective, Nick Cave refusing to over-emote, and demonstrating that less is more. Music and lyrics of Where the Wild Roses Grow creates, for me, fertile ground for daydreaming.
