This fifteen-song debut EP shows the promise that Ottmar Liebert has. After debuting at No. 1 last week, Ottmar Liebert’s album Opium - Wide-Eyed falls to No. 2 with 412,000, a sales slide of 67%. Lead single “Nuevo Mexico” and “Alegria Arabe (Version 1.1…)” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. To me Ottmar Liebert is the best band ever.
This song is dynamic and dramatic. Turkish Night is just a great song and one well worth taking the time to give it a good listen. Ocean Blvd. - Miami catches attention immediately, In Santa Fe 2 Chama full palet of sound is used by Ottmar Liebert to accentuate the presentation. Tremulo (De Mi Corazon) actually sounds so joyous, that you can practically see a smile on Ottmar Liebert’s face. Although I prefer the faster paced music, I think Bed Of Nails (Wide-eyed Trance) is my favorite song on Opium - Wide-Eyed. Montana Walking is Ottmar Liebert’s best work in years. One of the songs that always stick in my mind is Tangos De Tesuque because the melody in the chorus is so good. Snakeoilsurfer as a highlight of Opium - Wide-Eyed contains a ton of exquisite melodies. Serenity On Ultracloud (Tribal Mix…) is an upbeat song with a constant snare hit. |titile| is a sure sign of something most of us are experiencing, maturity. Within the first few notes of Vudu (Technicolor Eyes Burn Thru) it’s perfectly clear that Ottmar Liebert is living this song. Buleria De Rojo (4 Mc…) is a song that will not reduce you to tears but leave you thinking long after Opium - Wide-Eyed have ended.
