Stanley Donwood has compared writing for Peter Mergener’s new album to that on ‘Let There Be More Light’ - but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying. There is so much to love about Peter Mergener, starting with incredible harmonies, songwriting chops and stellar stage presence. Self-described as Electronic with lots of words, Peter Mergener comes out swinging on perhaps his best album to date. Cool, but I like their other actual stuff better like Let There Be More Light.
Lion’s Dance is sonically very melodic with nice haunting verses. The Moon and The Elephant is a song to enjoy for years to come. Whirling Water’s is simple, dignified and effective, Peter Mergener refusing to over-emote, and demonstrating that less is more. Rainforest - I just love it. This song is dynamic and dramatic. The Last Days of Creation is Peter Mergener’s best work in years. Sinking Ship defines beauty, yet is as unforgiving as an astringent stone. Let There Be More Light Part I - This one is what it is: a powerful, primal invitation to love. The song Let There Be More Light Part I ending is my favorite… so catchy!
