It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of Putumayo energies, virtually a rebirth. This album has some very good songs like Ya Rayah - Rachid Taha (Algeria) and Mabrouk Wo Arisna - Ali Hassan Kuban (Egypt). It has been eleven years Putumayo’ last studio CD, “Cairo To Casablanca” which won Array MTV Music Awards and was nominated for album of the year. I greatly enjoyed this CD.
Mabrouk Wo Arisna - Ali Hassan Kuban (Egypt) gives good insight into the truths. Ki Kounty - Khaled (Algeria) is astounding. Dikra - Raina Rai (Algeria) (4:15) a good melody. Listening to Nahawand - Sharkiat (Egypt) you can hear that Putumayo has still amazing chemistry with band members. Zwit Rwit - Idir (Algeria) - arguably the best track on Cairo To Casablanca album. Ya Maalem - Maurice El Mediouni (Algeria) - isn’t quite as powerful vocally, but has a beautiful melody. Leali - Rasha (Svdan) is simple, dignified and effective, Putumayo refusing to over-emote, and demonstrating that less is more. After few listenings I started to like Through The Veil - Jamshied Sharifi & Hassan Hakmoun (Iran Morocco) more and more. This track is nearly perfect if not perfect.
