Since completing 1995’s ‘Maire Brennan (of Clannad) Against the Wind’, Putumayo fulfilled their contract with Sparrow Records and where under no obligation to release another album. This disc has all of the essential Putumayo classics. eleven years ago, Putumayo briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “Maighread Ni Dhomhnaill Armhran Pheadar Breathnach”. Cool, but I like their other actual stuff better like Women Of The World Celtic.
Maighread Ni Dhomhnaill Armhran Pheadar Breathnach is worth the money. Karen Matheson (of Capercaillie) Dark Alan (from Rob Roy) - This happy song is an ode to optimism and an anthem. This track is clearly meant to showcase Putumayo’s vocal abilities. Maire Breatnach Breatnaigh Abu is a great song for a cosy night in when it’s cold and wintry outside. Maire Brennan (of Clannad ) The Mighty One is just a great song and one well worth taking the time to give it a good listen. In Maura O’Connell Stories the music gets its power. Fiona Joyce Cry Over You is astounding. Nancy McCallion (of The Mollys ) One We Go is a catchy, up-tempo track that has influence of music streams without leaning too much in that direction. Mairead Ni Mhaonaigh (of Altan ) Dulaman presents the marvelous mix of instruments on Women Of The World Celtic.
