It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of Scott Joplin energies, virtually a rebirth. While no new Scott Joplin album is in sight, the artist has been road testing new songs during 1993 tour in Asia. This album has some very good songs like Rosebud March and Bethena. If you love Scott Joplin as much as I do, then Scott Joplin The Complete Works of Scott Joplin, Vol. 3 is the CD for you!
Best song on the album, love it. Leola is a strong cut, one of many. One of the songs that always stick in my mind is Sarah Dear because the melody in the chorus is so good. I have all of Scott Joplin’s tracks and Binks Waltz is probably the most his introspective effort. Eugenia is a bit different from Scott Joplin stereotypical stuff. Antoinette is nothing short of a modern masterpiece. It’s very catchy and easy to get into which is what you want in a song. A fantastic track full of wonder. Searchlight Rag is a great song for a cosy night in when it’s cold and wintry outside. I find myself hearing bits of The Nonpareil (Equal To None) here and there throughout my waking hours. When Your Hair Is Like The Snow make listening to Scott Joplin like being in some sort of time warp. I can’t stop playing Rose Leaf Rag. Heliotrope Bouquet is one of the most beautiful songs ever to grace my stereo.
