Rose Marie CD 5 isn’t so much a record, as a great effort at dragging you into another world. This is one of the best Cd’s Slim Whitman has dropped to date. On Rose Marie CD 5 album, Slim Whitman have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. I Love Rose Marie CD 5 from start to finish!
I can’t stop humming along I’ll Sail My Ship Alone(1996). River Of Tears(1961) is the more seemingly obscure song on Rose Marie CD 5 that bear up best to repeated listening. I came to like Blues Stay Away From Me(1996). Slim Whitman is hitting on all cylinders in A Fool Such As I(1960). It took me a little time but I ended up loving The Letter Edged in Black(1959). Too Tired To Care(1996) is a pleasing, and full of overall coherence that goes beyond other creations. In A Tree In The Meadow(1996) you won’t find any flashy solos. The Prisoner’s Song(1960) is one of the coolest songs Slim Whitman has ever recorded. Heartbreak Hill(1960) - arguably the best track on Rose Marie CD 5 album. I’ll Never See Maggie Alone(1959) is probably one of Slim Whitman’s biggest successes for the album - it’s lovely to listen to. This track is possibly the biggest guilty pleasure on Rose Marie CD 5. Once You’re The Only One(1960) gets in your head, it will NEVER leave. Blues Stay Away from Me(1962) has a fun tempo. I’ll Sail My Ship Alone(1960) has a gorgeous instrumental sound, which lets Slim Whitman’s strong vocals come to the fore. The song feels complete. A Tree In The Meadow(1959) is a catchy, up-tempo track that has influence of music streams without leaning too much in that direction. This is one of those tracks that should not be judged after the first hearing. Whispering Hope(1960) is maybe the best thing the group’s ever done. I’m A Pilgrim(1960) (2:12) - Oh, this is one of my favorites! An Evening Prayer(1960) is almost impossible to review. Jesus Took My Burden(1960) is the most memorable and marvelous. Vocal harmonies in this track are great and song structure is just right. This track is nearly perfect if not perfect. Nice and different song. In Each Step I Take(1960) Slim Whitman spins a tale you want to hear to the end. The Great Judgement Morning(1960) had me crying as I was able to relate so well. He Lives On High(1960) is simple, dignified and effective, Slim Whitman refusing to over-emote, and demonstrating that less is more. Today Is Mine(1960) is a song that definitely grows on you and becomes an album favorite. When I Go To My Garden(1960) is the funkiest number on the album.
