Nowhere is this more so than on their re-working of Slowdive on ‘Rutti’. Lead single “Rutti” and “Crazy for You” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. Since completing 1995’s ‘Rutti’, Slowdive fulfilled their contract with Savoy Records and where under no obligation to release another album. It is very deep stuff - very exciting
Song Crazy for You is actually a funny song. Miranda - is a breath or fresh air compared to many previous songs of Slowdive. Trellisaze is a bit of a show-tune. Cello has a gorgeous instrumental sound, which lets Slowdive’s strong vocals come to the fore. J’s Heaven is the more seemingly obscure song on Pygmalion that bear up best to repeated listening. Visions of La is one of these floating songs. Blue Skied an’ Clear can be hardly overrated by any means; this is what Slowdive is all about. All of Us is simple, dignified and effective, Slowdive refusing to over-emote, and demonstrating that less is more.
